Despite being the smallest municipality of the archipelago, its population density makes Puerto de la Cruz the second most populated area of the islands. It was in Puerto de la Cruz where tourism first began in the Canarias, initially associated with the European Elite interested because of its climate, in botany, beaches or for other environmental factors, including health reasons. Its mild climate, perfect for its healing properties, has always attracted people to this island.

In this city, there are many amazing attractions to visit: from the leisure complex Lake Martianez (an open-air swimming pool, with many lakes and sculptures. A paradise on earth!); through to the Plaza del Charco (the centre and the commercial hub of the city, and one of the municipality's most popular spots); the Botanical Gardens (an important centre of exotic tropical flora, known for the amazing gardens and the many different animals found there), the Paseo of San Telmo (a pedestrian walk through palm trees in which there are many shops of all kindsor) and the Playa Jardín (a black sand beach, with gardens and shops). 

Besides these classic attractions already mentioned, this very popular tourist destination among the British, German, and Spanish also boasts other gems like the hermitage of San Telmo or Sitio Litre, housing dating from the eighteenth century. In its day, it served as home to famous visitors like Agatha Christie and the famous German explorer Alexander von Humboldt.
