Teamwork - Milton Olsen

Teamwork is undoubtedly what makes a company or organization advance or die, the results are not from a single person but from the added value of each of the parties or people that are part of the process.

A perfect teamwork can be observed in the behavior of Geese according to the naturalist - Milton Olsen, where we can observe 5 basic truths:

“This spring, when you see geese heading back north for the summer, flying in the typical V formation, you might want to know what scientists have discovered about why they fly this way.”

We learned that as each bird flaps its wings, each bird causes a lift in the bird immediately behind it. When flying in the “V” formation, the entire flock achieves a 71% higher yield than if each bird flew alone.”

Basic Truth 1: People who share a common direction and have a sense of community get to their destination faster and easier because they are traveling on trust.

“Whenever a goose falls, the flock feels the force of resistance to the advance and tries to quickly configure the old formation, to take advantage of the ascending force of the bird immediately ahead.”

Basic Truth #2: Strength and power increase when traveling in the same direction as others with whom we share a common goal.

“When it gets tired, the goose that goes ahead lags behind and the other one secures its position.”

Basic Truth #3: It pays to switch shifts in very hard work – with people or geese flying the same north.

“The geese in the back quack to encourage the ones in front and increase speed.”

Basic Truth #4: Those who exercise leadership need to be encouraged with praise and support.

“Finally, when a goose gets sick or is shot and falls, two geese break out of formation and follow it, to help and protect it. They stay with him until he is able to fly again or he dies, and then they start a new formation or go in search of their group.”

Basic Truth #5: We must support those who work with us in their times of need.
