How do I get from Lisbon Airport to city Centre?

 

If you land at the Lisbon International Airport, also known as Humberto Delgado Airport, the distance to Baixa de Lisboa is only 7km away! Although there is a lot of traffic in the Portuguese capital, we'll leave you here the various options you can choose to get from Lisbon Airport to the City Centre.

This airport had the highest passenger traffic in 2021, with more than 12 million and 100 thousand travellers! Among the several options you can get from this airport to the city centre by Metro, Bus, Taxi/Uber or Private Transfer. Depending on your needs, check which are the best choices to make so you don't get lost in Lisbon!

 

 

Lisbon Underground

 

 

The Lisbon Metro has only 4 lines: the Red, Yellow, Green and Blue Lines. There is a direct Metro line from Lisbon Airport to Baixa de Lisboa, depending on your destination, if you catch the Lisbon Metro Red Line at the Airport, which is the first station, you can go to the centre of Lisbon, until Saldanha and São Sebastião station, which is the last station of this Line. But you can change in the last 3 stations to go to other destinations. In Alameda station you can take the Green Line (Odivelas-Chiado and Cais do Sodré), in Saldanha station you can take the Yellow Line (Odivelas-Rato) and in São Sebastião station you can take the Blue Line (Reboleira-Terreiro do Paço).

 

Metro from Lisbon Airport - Baixa de Lisboa: Red Line

Entrance: next to the Lisbon Airport arrival gate

Schedule: from 06h30 to 01h00, every day

Duration: 55 minutes (Airport - São Sebastião)

Waiting time: an average of 7min 40sec, during rush hours the waiting time is shorter

Recommended: if you are on a budget and going to the Saldanha or São Sebastião areas

Not Recommended: if you are carrying heavy luggage or travelling during rush hours

Price: EUR 1.35 (plus EUR 0.50 Reusable Viva Viagem Card)

Comfort level: Medium: standard seats and no luggage rack

Tickets: to be purchased at available ticket vending machines (recommended to pay in cash)

Customers: young people; couples without small children

 

Carris Public Bus

 

 

There are several lines of Carris public buses that go from Lisbon Airport to downtown Lisbon. The public buses stop in front of the entrance/exit of Terminal 01 at Lisbon Airport and depending on your destination you can catch the lines 705, 722, 744, 783 and 208 (night). The 705 and 722 lines go from Lisbon Airport to Areeiro, the 744 line goes to Restauradores, the 783 line goes to Amoreiras Shopping Centre, but passes by Marquês de Pombal, and the 208 line goes to cais do Sodré passing by Rossio near Bairro Alto. All these lines work daily except line 705 that works only on weekdays.

Line 705 runs from 06.40 to 20.10, line 722 runs from 06.40 to 20.45, line 744 runs from 06.20 to 21.35 and line 783 from 06.35 to 00.15. Note that line 208 is a night line, that is, it runs every day from 00h30 with 30 minute intervals until 05h00 and the last bus leaves at 05h35. Carris also has articulated trams, but they only circulate on the Lisbon waterfront and in Baixa, so this means of transport is not an option.

 

Bus from Lisbon Airport - Baixa de Lisboa: Lines 705, 722, 744, 783 and 208

Buses entrance/stops: in front of the Lisbon Airport Terminal 01

Schedule: Daytime (705, 722, 744, 783) - from 06h30-00h15 and Night time (208) - from 00h30 to 05h35

Duration: 35 minutes (Lisbon Airport - Chiado)

Waiting time: 705-15m (Inv) and 20m (Ver), 722-20m, 744-14m, 783-10m (Inv) and 14m (Ver), 208-30m

Recommended: if you are on a budget and going to unusual destinations (CC Amoreiras)

Not Recommended: if you carry large luggage or travel during rush hours

Comfort Level: Low: you may have to stand upright and luggage must not exceed 50x40x20 cm

Price: EUR 1,45 (plus EUR 0,50 Reusable Viva Viagem Card) otherwise the on-board fare is EUR 2

 

Taxi/Uber

 

 

Next to the Airport there is a taxi park that operates 24 hours a day every day of the year. But be aware that the fare system is different during the day (06h-21h) and at night (21h-06h). Taxis charge the same fare whether you request this service alone or in a group of up to 4 people.

There is an additional charge of £0.80 for a taxi call by telephone, £1.60 for luggage and £1.60 for pets, but if your suitcases are smaller than 55x35x20cm you pay no additional charge day or night.

The prices of the trip vary if you use this service during the day or night.
