How do I get from Porto airport to city Centre?

 

Porto Airport or Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is located about 19km (12 miles) north of the Porto city centre.

It is around 40 minutes from Porto by the Porto airport metro that is largely used for transfers between the airport and the city.

Porto Airport (airport code OPO) as it is often known is used by a majority European airlines (TAP Air Portugal, Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling, Iberia, KLM, Air France, Swiss Air, Transavia, British Airways, Wizz air, Air Europa,) and some intercontinental Airlines (Emirates, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Delta, Azul)

Porto Airport is a modern, medium size airport, the second largest in Portugal, it was opened in 1945 and it was named Pedras Rubras airport, after the name of the place where it is located Pedras Rubras ("red rocks").

It was renamed to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, named after the former prime minister, Franciso Sá Carneiro, and it was rebuilt in 2006 to become one of the best airports in Europe of its class.

On a typical day the airport handles around 200 flights, and per year more than 10 million people travel using this airport.

 

 

Porto Airport metro to/from central Porto

 

 

There’s a direct metro route from Porto Airport to Porto city centre (Trindade Station); You can reach the metro station walking 5 min from the arrivals terminal.

The journey takes around 40 min and the ticket price is EUR 2 (zone Z4) plus the one time fee for the Metro Card (Andante) EUR 0,60. Trains work with 30 minute gap between the routes.

 

Metro Porto Airport – Porto City: E (purple line)

Schedule: From 5.57 am to 0.42 am (from the airport), From 6.20 am to 0.44 am (from the city),

Duration: 40 minutes (Airport – Trindade Train Station)

Waiting time: 30 min

Comfort level: Low: standard seats; no luggage racks

Price: EUR 2 (and EUR 0,60 Andante – Metro Card one time fee)

Tickets: Automatic Machines (recomended to pay with cash EUR, many card won’t work)

Clients: youngsters; couples without little children; good knowledge of the route; be ready for long walks

Accessibility: in all stations, the vehicle platform has no steps or interior barriers and is at the same level as the boarding pier; Some seats are reserved primarily for people with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly or children, and these seats are properly identified

Porto Airport public bus to/from central Porto

 

 

There are 2 public bus routes from Porto Airport to Porto city centre (Cordoaria); You can easily reach the public bus stop located just in front of the arrivals terminal.

The journey takes around 50 min and the ticket price is EUR 2 (zone Z4) plus the one time fee for the Metro/Bus Card (Andante) EUR 0,60. The bus work with 30 minute gap between the routes.

 

BUS Porto Airport – Porto City: 601 / 602 (company STCP)

Schedule: From 5.30 am to 01.10 am (from the airport), From 6.30 am to 0.25 am (from the city),

Duration: 50 minutes (Airport – Cordoaria)

Waiting time: 30 min

Comfort level: Low: standard seats; standard luggage racks

Price: EUR 2 (and EUR 0,60 Andante – Metro Card one time fee)

Tickets: Driver in cash EUR

Clients: youngsters; couples without little children; good knowledge of the route; be ready for long walks

Accessibility: buses equipped with ramp and place reserved for wheelchairs or strollers

Porto Airport Shuttle Bus to/from central hotels Porto

 

 

There’s a shuttle bus service from Porto Airport to Porto city hotels; It adapts to most of the flight schedules and you can easily reach the meeting point located on the arrivals terminal.

The journey takes around 30-50 min (depending on the amount of hotel stops) and the ticket price is EUR 12 (per way if you are a solo travel) depending on the total amount of passengers travelling with you, the price can go lower up to EUR 6 per person if your group is bigger than 8 pax.

 

SHUTTLE BUS Porto Airport – Porto City Hotels

Schedule: 24 hours

Duration: 30-50 minutes (depending on the total amount of hotel stops as it is a shared transfer)

Waiting time: 30 min (at the airport as you can wait for other passengers arriving)

Comfort level: Medium: standard seats; good luggage racks

Price: EUR 12 (per person for individuals); EUR 9 (per person for a booking of 2); EUR 7 (per person for a booking of 3 up to 7); EUR 6 (per person for a booking of 8 or more);

You can hire a taxi from Porto airport into Porto for €25-50, depending on your hotel's location, whether you're traveling in the daytime or after dark, whether is a weekday or weekend, and depending on how many bags you are bringing with you. 

It's an easy option, but not the cheapest, and sometimes it has hidden fees, such as waiting time, traffic, or bags.
