Winning Attitudes in Leadership

It is very difficult, if not impossible, to develop a group of professionals into a high performance team when their main focus is only yours. After all, no one does anything alone.

You can be a great talent, even a phenomenon in your field, but without outside collaboration, it will be impossible to get all projects moving.

Establishing solid relationship bridges is essential. This is the most efficient way to have someone you trust that you can count on.

Good relationships go far beyond a simple employment contract. It is not because a worker is paid a salary that he will necessarily be willing to deliver the best he has to offer. It is also not the amount of remuneration that determines the type of professional you will have on your staff, but how much we are available to prove that such employee is worth.

Let's say you are offered the best job offer, with the most tempting salary. If the environment is toxic, and if the leader or team leader does not know how to recognize and encourage the efforts made by his team, all the financial investment will be useless. When you need it most, you will be alone, because you have not developed a base of support, security and partnership.

I am founder and CEO of one of the main inbound tour operators for the Iberian Peninsula. I am absolutely aware that I didn't get here alone. I needed help several times. I know, mainly, that I don't stay in my position only because of the efforts I make every day, but because I formed an incredible team of professionals.

They are people I can count on at any time and who, on the other hand, know that I will be available to them in the same measure.

If you make your initiatives a personal project and want all the spotlight on you, your chances of success will be minimal. Don't fall into that trap.

Everything you do with the intention of winning must necessarily be a team building. In this sense, each one collaborates with what they have and it is in the set and in the combination of all the skills and talents that the success of the enterprise becomes possible.

Remember: your availability is capable of involving people in action. This implies setting an example, mobilizing the team, knowing how to communicate and winning the trust of each one of the team members.

Naturally, the leader ends up standing out in the market. And that makes sense. After all, the responsibility of leading the entire team and being the beacon of transformation rests on your shoulders. Efficient and winning leadership serves as a model, inspiration and guide so that everyone knows where they are going and why they have chosen the path. But this responsibility must be carried with a good dose of humility.

I usually say that my satisfaction comes from the collective results achieved, and not from my individual achievements.

Without keeping this principle in mind, you will not be able to exercise inspirational leadership, only authoritative leadership. And the leader who imposes and subdues his team does not create bonds, does not develop projects, does not build an enabling environment, in which everyone has the same chance to shine and be recognized for their efforts.

What kind of leader do you want to be?
