Campanhã Youth Center – Seminary for Helpless Children

The Campanhã Youth Center, founded in 1814, is a Residential Shelter, Emergency Unit and Temporary Shelter

It is with great satisfaction that we welcome this institution as benefactors in our Social project LivingTourianos Com Causa 1 for 1, where we donate a meal for each participant in our Tours.

The History and Foundation of the Campanhã Youth Center

When, on March 29, 1809, the French army, under the command of Marshal Soult, invaded the country for the second time and reached Porto, the tragedy of Ponte das Barcas occurred, in which thousands of people were buried in the waters of Porto. Douro.

Priest José de Oliveira, to collect the children who lost their parents, officially founded on January 6, 1814, the Seminary of Desamparados Children.

Over the years, with the growth of the work, it was installed in several spaces, up to the current space donated by the benefactor Luís António Gonçalves de Lima, where it settled – Casa e Quinta do Pinheiro de Campanhã.

The Social Responses promoted by this Institution

In respect for the rights of children and young people, these social responses aim to provide care and an adequate satisfaction of the physical, psychological, emotional, educational and social needs of children and young people in residential care.

It is intended that in this context, they establish affective, safe and stable bonds, determining factors for a harmonious structuring and development of their personality, minimizing the emotional damage resulting from exposure to dangerous situations, such as negligence and family abuse, behavior problems, involvement in risky behavior, school absenteeism, among others.

During the reception period, in addition to creating conditions that favor the construction of their identity and integration of their life story, it is intended that they acquire and develop skills of personal, social, educational and professional valuation, with a view to their progressive autonomy and full social integration.

Privileging the natural way of life of the child or young person, the acquisition and strengthening of the skills of parents and/or holders of the exercise of parental responsibilities is also promoted, in respect for the best interests of the child and young person, so that can, under the best conditions, exercise their role.

In these terms, the work is carried out by teams that are duly qualified and able to respond to problems and specific intervention needs, guaranteeing them permanent and quality care.

LivingTours financially supports the institution through our Livingtourians with a Cause 1 for 1 program, but also through Solidarity Collection campaigns among Livingtourians of clothing, food and toys, where we regularly donate these donations, essential to help their well-being of these helpless boys.
