SCHEDULE
Starting time 9am
DURATION
9 hours
The visit starts at 9am from Santander towards Potes (capital of Liébana). To reach this city, one of the most beautiful in Spain, we will cross the spectacular Gorge de la Hermida. It will be about 1.5 hours when we cross valleys, rivers, and mountains.
Once in Potes, you will have the option to make a small pilgrimage to the Monastery of Santo Toribio (about 3 km from the constant sloping village). The estimated time to climb the Monastery of Potes is 45 minutes.
The Monastery of Santo Toribio, together with Santiago, Rome and Jerusalem, is the only one in the world that preserves a piece of the cross on which Jesus Christ died and one of the four places of Christianity where you can obtain the jubilee or the forgiveness of sins through pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage we will make will be the shortest way out of existence, the final route of the pilgrim's journey. Santo Toribio is undoubtedly one of the oldest in Liébana, probably from the sixth century. The main door of the monastery is what we know as Puerta de El Perdón. The interior is divided into three naves, with the main altar in the broadest. The one that houses the 'Lignum Crucis' is of baroque style.
At 12 noon we will attend the mass of the pilgrim.
We return to the hermitage and San Miguel viewpoint (which is 2 minutes by car) and where you can see the Picos de Europa. From there, we will resume the trip back to Potes.
The gastronomy of Liébana Valley is famous for its pots and stews. Then, how could it be otherwise, we propose to restore the energy with a good cooked Lebaniego, the region's best dish (a bean stew with meat). Changes can be made to the proposed menu upon request.
After lunch, you will have some free time to visit Potes and do some shopping if you wish.
Then we will go to San Sebastián de Garabandal, a small town between the mountains of Rionansa. In this city there were apparitions of the Virgin Mary from 1961 to 1965. There are many witnesses who lived the events of the time.
After visiting the Sanctuary of Los Pinos and the city, we will start the journey back to Santander, where we should arrive around 7.30pm.
Cancellations less than 24 hours or no show, a fee of 100% will be charge.
