Full description

Italica, located in modern-day Santiponce and at 9 km from Seville, was the first Roman city founded in the Iberian Peninsula and was the birthplace of the Emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Considered the most important Roman ruins in Spain, Italica is a must-go place for the curious about History and Architecture and also for the mosaic enthusiasts.

The Roman city was founded in 206 B.C. by the General Publius Cornelius (also known for the nickname Africanus) and was a place of settlement for wounded soldiers or victorious veterans. From Seville, we will arrive at Italica in a short time. Old streets with fabulous mosaics compose this archaeological site, as well as a big aqueduct with 37 km total length, and a surprisingly big Amphitheatre - the 3rd biggest in the Roman Empire. You can wander through the tunnels where gladiators would once have walked! In this tour, our guide will also tell us about the Roman Theatre, dated from I B.C. and I A. C. centuries.

Italica is such a perfect relic of the Roman Empire that HBO chose it to be the scenario of some scenes of the 7th season of the famous show “Game of Thrones”.

After the stroll in this site, we will visit the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, founded in 1301, a medieval fortress that hides treasures from the Mudéjar, Gothic and Baroque periods. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site of National Interest in 1872.

It will be impossible to escape to these amazing stories, facts, and curiosities about the Roman ruins of Italica.

A great experience thanks to Antonio, a very knowledgeable guide
Nice to be picked almost at the doorstep of our accommodation. Mosaics and the amphitheater were highlights for me. Great local wine in a local winery. Thanks Antoneo Selma from Kentucky

Highly interesting
We loved Miquel in English. It was very well explained. Good pick-up and delivery service and great end at an old Spanish spanish bar with a glass of wine.

It was an unique experience
Congrats to our superb guide Miquel that has made the tour very nice and fun with "xistes"... A voyage back in time to the Roman times to see the place of the meeting of the GoT seven Kingdoms. Very near from the center of Seville. Still, the hotel pick is an added value, mainly because of the confusion and time wasted to go there by ourselves. 33€ with entrance, small group, comfortable van, local knowledgeable guide, visit to the Monastery and a glass of local wine is cheap for the great service provided.
