This full day off-road tour will take you through the calm and sunny Southwest of the Madeira Island. We will start in Campanário, a small parish in Ribeira Brava. The village is surrounded by exotic fruit fields due to its privileged climate conditions and the water abundance, coming from the “levadas”, which make it the perfect location to cultivate delicious fruit.
Our guide will then take you through the most beautiful places in the Southwest, from Ponta do Sol to Calheta. We’ll follow the dirt tracks that cut between terraces and are decorated with colourful banana tree and sugar cane plantations.
Take the time along the way to admire the volcanic characteristics of the island, and capture how the sun-burnt cliffs contrast with the various shades of green of the unique flora.
On our last stop, Calheta, we will visit the Calheta Milling Company, one of the oldest mills on the island. The company was founded at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, having half a century of history.
It’s a perfect example of the sugar production past of the island. Quality spirits and sugar cane syrup are still produced here, the latter using a steam cooking technique.
The tour is done on an off-road vehicle so you can experience the Southwest of the Madeira Island in the best way and appreciate the most spectacular landscapes!
