Full description

Italica, located in modern-day Santiponce and at 9 km from Seville, was the first Roman city founded in the Iberian Peninsula and was the birthplace of the Emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Considered the most important Roman ruins in Spain, Italica is a must-go place for the curious about History and Architecture and also for the mosaic enthusiasts.

The Roman city was founded in 206 B.C. by the General Publius Cornelius (also known for the nickname Africanus) and was a place of settlement for wounded soldiers or victorious veterans. From Seville, we will arrive at Italica in a short time. Old streets with fabulous mosaics compose this archaeological site, as well as a big aqueduct with 37 km total length, and a surprisingly big Amphitheatre - the 3rd biggest in the Roman Empire. You can wander through the tunnels where gladiators would once have walked! In this tour, our guide will also tell us about the Roman Theatre, dated from I B.C. and I A. C. centuries.

Italica is such a perfect relic of the Roman Empire that HBO chose it to be the scenario of some scenes of the 7th season of the famous show “Game of Thrones”.

After the stroll in this site, we will visit the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, founded in 1301, a medieval fortress that hides treasures from the Mudéjar, Gothic and Baroque periods. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site of National Interest in 1872.

It will be impossible to escape to these amazing stories, facts, and curiosities about the Roman ruins of Italica.

Amazing Tour and Guide!
I love Game of Thrones, so the moment i've booked my trip to Andalucia and Seville, I knew that I had to visit Italica site. I found this tour here, which was perfect! Very cheap for a private tour! The tour guide and drive, Alfonso, was amazing! He is also a GOT fanatic which made it all better. He explained us the monument, the roman empire occupation in Spain and also the set of Game of Thrones. I explained us how long it took for them to shoot, how the actores lived in Seville during the shootings of the series and where they usually go. Thank you Anfonso! Totally recommended!
