Day 1 – Lisboa, Óbidos, Alcobaça, Nazaré, Batalha, Fátima
We will leave Lisbon towards ÓBIDOS (stop), surrounded by medieval walls where we can admire the diversity of the handicrafts and taste the famous liquor called “Ginginha”. We’ll continue to ALCOBAÇA (stop) dominated by the imposing church, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, that introduced the Gothic style in Portugal and where Pedro I and Inês de Castro rest, known for their love story. We’ll depart to NAZARÉ (stop), a typical fishing village with its traditions and legends. Next, we’ll get the opportunity to admire the BATALHA Monastery (stop) – considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a masterpiece of the Gothic style in Portugal. We proceed to FÁTIMA (stop), local of the world-famous Marian Shrine. Overnight in Fátima.
Day 2 – Fátima, Coimbra, Aveiro, Oporto
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards COIMBRA (stop) to visit one of the most ancient University sites in the world with its Baroque library. In the afternoon, we continue to AVEIRO (stop), the city of the canals, known as the “Portuguese Venice”, where you shall have time to taste the local sweets “Ovos Moles”. Drive to Oporto. Overnight in Oporto.
Day 3 – Oporto, Guimarães, Braga, Oporto
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we’ll visit the city of OPORTO (stop), the 2nd biggest city in Portugal. We’ll discover its avenues, monuments, and characteristic places including the romantic Exchange Palace, Church of São Francisco, and the traditional and popular Ribeira neighborhood. We will visit one of the most known and traditional Port Wine Cellars where we will have a wine tasting of Port Wine. We will continue to the Minho region, where history, religion, and legends blend with magnificent monuments, stunning views, delicious cuisine, and unique wines. After, we will visit GUIMARÃES (stop), the cradle of nationality. Then visit BRAGA (stop) known as the "Rome of Portugal" where we can visit the oldest cathedral in the country and the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus. Return to Oporto. Overnight in Oporto.
Day 4 – Oporto, Santiago de Compostela, Oporto
Breakfast at the hotel. We leave Oporto towards SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA (stop), the capital of Galicia, and the destination of the pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago. In 1985, UNESCO declared Santiago de Compostela a Cultural Heritage Site. During the day, you have complete freedom to discover this fascinating city. You can stroll through the historic streets, get to know the extraordinary monuments, taste the traditional dishes, and visit the imposing Santiago Cathedral, the most important work of the Romanesque period in Spain. Return to Oporto. Overnight in Oporto.
Day 5 - Oporto, Amarante, Vila Real, Vale do Douro, Lamego, Urgeiriça
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to AMARANTE (stop), a small town located at the banks of the Tâmega river, with its houses with colorful porches and its candy shops with delicious monastic sweets. After, we will drive to VILA REAL (stop) where we will visit the gardens of the Manor of Mateus. Then we will enter in the PORT WINE REGION, where one of the most known nectars of the Gods is made - the Port Wine. Stop in LAMEGO (stop), overlooked by one of Portugal's most important shrines, Our Lady of Remedies. You may try some of the local delicacies such as the famous “Bola de Lamego” (a loaf baked in the oven with smoked ham). Overnight in Urgeiriça.
Day 6 – Urgeiriça, Bussaco, Tomar, Lisboa
Breakfast at the hotel. We will drive through the heart of Portugal till BUSSACO, where the romantic Palace Hotel and its luxuriant forest stands out. We continue to TOMAR (stop), which development is closely linked to the Order of the Templars. We will visit the Convent of Christ, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. We follow the journey to Lisbon. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 7 – Lisboa, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais, Estoril
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards SINTRA, where you will get lost in the Pena Palace, a palace that marked the romantic period in Portugal, and walks around this enchanting village. Free time for lunch. Enjoy the amazing view from the westernmost point of Continental Europe - CABO DA ROCA. Along the coast we’ll pass by the incredible Boca do Inferno, the cosmopolitan CASCAIS and the gardens of the Casino of ESTORIL. Return to Lisbon. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 8 – Lisboa, Évora
Leaving Lisbon, we cross the bridge over the Tagus river, where we can enjoy a beautiful and bucolic landscape of olive trees, cork oak trees, and vineyards. We arrive at ÉVORA – World Heritage Site of UNESCO, a mosaic of culture, history, and traditions where we visit some of its main monuments: the Roman Temple, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, Saint Francis Church with the “Bones Chapel“, and the University. This visit will allow us to enjoy all the range of crafts that the Alentejo region has to offer and the diversity of the produce used in one of the tastiest Portuguese cuisines. Time to lunch. In the afternoon, free time for a better discovery of the city. Overnight in Évora.
Day 9 - Évora, Beja, Silves, Lagos
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure in Évora, and then driving southward passing a relaxing landscape towards BEJA (stop) where the most imposing tower of the Portuguese Medieval castles dominates the town and the region. Crossing small mountains, we enter in the Algarve, where between fields of orange trees we arrive at SILVES (stop), dominated by its Moorish Castle and by the memory of is former cork industry. After and passing by Praia da Rocha Beach we get to LAGOS to meet the sea. Overnight in Lagos.
Day 10 - Lagos, Ponta da Piedade, Sagres, Cabo de S. Vicente, Lagos
Breakfast at the hotel. We will go to PONTA DA PIEDADE (stop) to admire the cliffs which shapes have been sculpted by the erosive action of both, the sea and time. Continue to SAGRES (stop), site of the mythical “Navigation School” of Prince Henry the Navigator that gave new worlds to the World. At CABO SÃO VINCENTE (stop), the most south-western point in Europe, we will be stunned by its cliffs. Arrival to LAGOS, a cosmopolitan Algarve town with its marina and fishing port, where you can taste the delicious Algarve gastronomy, rich in fish, shellfish and almond sweets. Free time in the afternoon. Overnight in Lagos.
Day 11 - Lagos, Setúbal, Serra da Arrábida, Lisboa
Breakfast at the hotel. We leave for the city of SETÚBAL (stop), a major port and industrial center on the north bank of the Sado estuary, looking to the gorgeous Tróia Peninsula. Then we take the scenic route over the ARRÁBIDA Mountain, an area preserved as a Natural Park, with an amazing scenery and unique vegetation. Crossing the bridge over the Tagus River we will arrive at Lisbon.
