Visit the Northeast of Madeira while travelling in an off-road vehicle. Board this adventure and discover the rustic side of the island.
This full day adventure starts when we pick you up from your hotel and then make a small excursion to appreciate the view. Take a deep breath and feel nature’s fresh air and natural scents while you admire the terraced vineyards, which produce flavorful wine.
Next our guide will take you in an off-road vehicle, to the northeast coast of the island, where almost nothing has changed in the past 50 years. Here the rural life is lived to the fullest and the peacefulness of the place will for sure infect you too.
See typical Madeira houses that are still being used, just as many of other objects from the past, like the Achadinha water sawmill or the Calheta Milling Company.
This milling company is one of the oldest mills on the island and an example of the sugar production past of the region. Here, high-quality rum is produced, as well as sugar cane syrup obtained by steam cooking the sugar cane juice (known as "guarapa").
Then venture through the winding tracks of the Laurissilva forest, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and marvel at its dense and unique flora which has resisted almost five centuries of humanization. It is believed that this forest once covered the entire island and that’s why the explorers gave it the name of Madeira (wood).
Fall in love with the island and learn everything about the rural life in Madeira and its natural heritage in this spectacular adventure!
