Start your day heading to Lagoa do Fogo by the traditional roads of São Miguel and admire the great landscapes of this part of the island from the viewpoint on the top of the lagoon. Lagoa Do Fogo is an impressive mother nature handiwork classified as a natural reserve. A heavenly place, where you can hear the birds singing, explore the exuberant vegetation and behold the white sand beach.
Your next stop is at the Natural Park of Caldeira Velha, a truly paradisiacal place, composed of a narrow and deep valley where there are several manifestations of volcanism. Here you have the opportunity to bath in the warm waters of the Caldeira that are around 34ºC. At midday don’t forget to join the group for a delicious lunch in a local restaurant on the island.
Our tour continues with a nice drive along the north coast of the island of Sao Miguel, with beautiful views along the way and ending with a visit to a pineapple plantation. Here you will get to know all phases of the pineapple growth and much more. While the temperatures in the Azores do not allow the pineapples to develop, the people found a very innovative way to produce it: in greenhouses – bio, extremely tasty and faster than in a classic way. Pineapple culture on the islands began in the late 19th century when the fruits were brought over from Brazil and nowadays are considered the ex-libris of the island.
