Full description

This private VIP tour will let you visit two cities full of history, great heritage, and a strong religious devotion - Braga and Guimarães.

We will start our trip by visiting Braga, also known as the "Portuguese Rome". Braga is a deeply religious city and this guided tour will allow you to visit the Triangle of Faith: the Cathedral, the Sameiro Sanctuary, and the Bom Jesus Sanctuary. Exciting, right?

The first stop, the Cathedral of Braga, also known as Sé de Braga, is a Catholic Church and one of the most important buildings in the city, considered as the city’s birthplace. An engaging monument that combines three completely different architectural styles: Romanesque, Manueline and Baroque. It is the oldest Cathedral in Portugal - it was even built several decades before the founding of the country!

Find the Sameiro Sanctuary, a Marian Shrine, that attracts a great number of devotees and tourists. Constructed at 570 meters over two valleys, this dazzling monument allows a prestigious landscape over the entire city.

Discover the majestic Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary. This pilgrimage site is one of the most impressive sacred hills in Europe, with a stairway with almost 600 hundred steps. It was used to be climbed by pilgrims on their knees to reach the purification of the spirit. Not only a religious monument but also a truly romantic and relaxing place, with stunning views of the city.

It's now time for a pause. Appreciate a savory traditional lunch in the city historical center of Braga.

After lunch, we will continue this private tour with a stop in Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal, and a World Heritage Site, since 2001. Guimarães is related to the foundation of the national identity and the Portuguese language. This was the city where the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, was born.

We will go towards the main attraction in the city, the Guimarães Castle. Located over a hill, this imposing Castle presents medieval battlements, towers, and splendid landscapes. Discover the glorious bronze statue of D. Afonso Henriques

Then, we will continue passing through the Palace of the Bragança Dukes and visit the São Miguel Church

Walk through the Martins Sarmento Square. To end this short walking tour, you will discover the Santa Maria Street, the City Hall, the Santiago Square, and the Senhora da Oliveira Church

Explore this World Heritage Site, a perfect example of a typical medieval city with a modern identity.

By the end of this tour, you will return safely to Porto and your guide will drop you off at your accommodation.

I wish to commend DIANA, and SILVIA FREITAS, as tour leaders
Diana was my leader on a tour from Porto to Braga and Guimaraes on Sunday December 8 and Silvia led me on a tour to Aveiro a few days later. They were perfect and engaging leaders and I am very grateful that I met them and was able to listen to their narratives. I think that your tour organization should be proud to be associated with them. Sincerely Carl Wiener, tour participant.

The tour is awesome.
A day tour to Braga and Guimaraes from Porto. Staring by thanking our incredible guide Francisco.F and the excellent driver Silvino. They have made our tour an unforgettable moment. The tour is awesome. Very comprehensive tour. Francisco is very knowledgeable, like an open encyclopedia. The places we have visited were amazing. Very good food and green wine. I would have appreciated to have a little more time to wonder in Guimaraes which was my favorite place.
