Ramiro, the Christian King, attacked a Moorish fortress to rescue his wife, Queen Gaia, who had been kidnapped by the Moorish Emir Alboazar. On the way back home, he asked her why she was crying so much. She replied, while gazing at the ruins of Alboazar’s castle, that it had been the only place where she had been really happy. In a fit of rage, Ramiro told her: “Then look Gaia, look closely (“Mira…Gaia”), because it is the last thing you will ever see”. And killed her.  That is where the name of the neighbourhood of Miragaia comes from, where this Porto Customs House stands. On the other side of the Douro river, the city of Gaia can still be seen.

All these legends are related to the history of the city of Porto, inspired by the book by historian Joel Cleto, "The Legends of Porto", through an innovative experience in Portugal.
