Full description

Las Ventas, more than a "Fiesta"!

Welcome to Madrid bullring, the Plaza Monumental de Las Ventas del Espíritu Santo, the international center of bullfighting.

On your visit, you will discover a place which is emblematic of the heart and soul of tauromaquia, where the world’s finest matadors present their artistry and skill.

Inaugurated in 1931, the bullring was designed by architect José Espeliú and consists of a metal structure with a brick façade in the style of Neo-Moorish design.

The bullring is decorated with ceramic tiling as well as 52 glazed plaques which hold the shields of every province of Spain, the work of architect Manuel Muñoz Monasterio. During the tour we will guide you through the key parts of the bullring, from the main entrance to the "tendidos", the "callejon", and various significant gateways, describing the three protagonists of this magnificent spectacle: the audience, the bullfighter, and the bull, in order to explain the Fiesta to a global audience.

The Bullfighting Museum of Madrid is located at the “Patio de Caballos” in an emblematic section of the building, and it includes a collection depicting the history of bullfighting in Spain. Among its works we can find engravings from the tauromachy of Goya, bullfighters dress from the twentieth century, a section devoted exclusively to Manolete and a large testimonial sample of the birth of the historic Las Ventas bullring.

Reviews

wonderful.
the tour provided not only a visual feast of architectural splendor but also a profound appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of bullfighting in Spain. The knowledgeable guide skillfully illuminated the intricacies of this age-old tradition, making the tour a memorable and educational experience for visitors seeking to understand the essence of tauromaquia.

Kultur

The practice is part of Spanish culture but we all know that animals suffer
As much as you do not agree with the practice itself, bullfighting is part of Spanish culture. And this is the ideal place to know everything that surrounds this cultural practice. The place is imposing, with its jaw-dropping Mudejar architecture. The location is amazing, from the service to the organization. We attended a novillada. I would not see it again, I found it very cruel to animals, although the connoisseurs argue that bullfighters have a very respectful relationship with animals, which are bred for this purpose.

history, art and spain culture
This is the ideal place to know all about bullfighting. The place is impressive for its Mudejar architecture that is breathtaking indeed. The guided audio tour explains a lot, and in the end we can still hold that red cloth, and the pink that the bullfighter holds. It's very heavy! There are small shops that sell logical souvenirs linked to bullfighting.

day time activity
The square is located just off the subway and the tour is worth the history and culture. The price of the ticket includes an audio guide and a visit to the museum. The tour consists of a visit to the Museum, watching an audiovisual and visiting the arena. In addition, the site has a low concentration of tourists, which makes the visit more peaceful and you can spend as much time as you need on museum sites and paintings.

a place we should visit
A place rich in history and a museum in the end rich in details. It is impressive for its history and culture. Even without attending a bullfight, it is possible to stay with the narrative about the courage of a man stepping into the arena and face a beast with the force and savagery of a bull. I found the tickets a bit expensive for a place that is under renovation
