Girona is an old city with a great artistic and architectural heritage resulting from its exceptional medieval past. Walking through the Old Town is like travelling back in time to the city’s foundation in the Roman ages and through its glorious medieval period. In it the spectacular Cathedral stands out, known for having the widest gothic nave of the world, which you can access through a monumental stairway.
In the city you will find the best preserved Jewish quarter of Europe. You will roam its narrow streets with stone pavement with our professional guide to discover their hidden secrets. Girona was the home of Spain’s most important Aljama (jewish community), center of the Cábala. Here you will also discover the beautiful arabic baths and the different locations of the synagogue. Further, you will enjoy the best views of the city while walking around the Carolingian wall.
Girona is also known as the “City of the four rivers” as it is the confluence of the Onyar, Ter, Güell and Galligants Rivers. Because of this, we can find different bridges in the city that connect the modern and organized part with the historic center. These include the Pont de les Peixateries Velles (“Bridge of the Old Fishmarket”) which stands out. It’s a beautiful bridge made of iron and designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1877 that you will cross while looking at the colorful houses on the banks of the Onyar River, which are a trademark for the city.
Our expert guide will show you the most magical corners of the city, among them the places that have brought Game of Thrones to life. You will feel like Arya Stark in the streets of Braavos and climb the magnificent stairs that go up to the Baelor’s Sept in King's Landing.
Whether you’re a Game of Thrones fan or just love medieval cities and the Jewish world, this is the perfect tour for you!
