Full description

Start the journey from Barcelona in a comfortable coach until you reach de Cardona region. At the top of a hill, 585 meters high, there is a medieval fortress considered one of the most important in Catalonia.

Of Romanesque and Gothic styles, this castle includes the rooms: Dorada (Golden) and dels Entresols (Between floors). The castle's jewels are the tower of the Minyona (of the 11th century), and the Romanesque Church of San Vicente de Cardona.

During the fifteenth century, the Dukes of Cardona were the most important family of the Crown of Aragon, only behind the Royal House. The members of this ducal house were known as "kings without crowns", because they had extensive territorial domains in Catalonia, Aragon and Valencia, and dynastic links with the royal houses of Castile, Portugal, Sicily and Naples.

The visit continues towards Cardona's Salt MountainThis depression has some natural characteristics considered worthy of an inclusion in the Plan of Spaces of Natural Interest of Catalonia. Have the opportunity to walk through its tunnels at 86m deep! The outcrops of salt are located within this depression, for what was formerly known as the Saline, and currently is known as Saline Valley.

After finishing a brunch made up of typical local products and wine, the tour continues towards the mountain of Montserrat, that rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,236 meters).

The rocks of Montserrat are a natural sand cement that for centuries has been shaped by wind and rain. The popular imagination has seen human or animal shapes in some of its peaks, giving them names and inventing legends to explain their fantastic origin. This visit will give you the opportunity to breathe fresh air and enjoy the wonderful views of the mountain, one of the special creations of nature.

You will enjoy an early visit to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat before it is overcrowded with tourists. This Sanctuary houses the famous 12th-century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta (the Black Virgin)You can see this famous carving from a distance.

The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop to the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, who is enshrined in the monastery's Royal Basilica. The small monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who have contributed to the dissemination of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Recently, Montserrat has been modernized to continue serving the needs of pilgrims a thousand years after its foundation.

You will have free time to visit the audiovisual room where images of the history and creation of the monastery are projected. You will also have the chance to taste the typical liqueurs created by the monks of the monastery.
