MEETING POINT

We will pick you up at your hotel in Santander. Alternatively, meeting point at Calle Castelar, 25 (bus stop in front of Hotel Vincci Puertochico)

From November to March: Wednesdays and Saturdays, at 3pm (Santander) and 3.30pm (Torrelavega)

From April to October: Tuesdays and Fridays, at 3.30pm (Santander) and 4pm (Torrelavega)

Full description

We will leave Santander towards the mountains of Rionansa. We will go across valleys, forests, and mountains to reach this amazing cave that was discovered at the time when it was used as a mining factory.

El Soplao cave is considered one of the great wonders of geology, treasuring an authentic paradise of speleothems (eccentric, stalactites, stalagmites, washes, columns, cave pearls, dog teeth, etc.).

There are two ways to make this visit. In this proposal, we have considered the classic visit, which consists of doing a walking guided circuit of 1 hour through different galleries to which we will access with a small train. This is a very easy and accessible route for everyone.

Alternatively, we propose to make an “adventure” visit to the cave. This would be an experience for the most intrepid persons (it would be 2.5 hours in the cave equipped with Hull, diver and water boots).

After doing this visit we will go back to Santander (1-hour driving), however in our way back, we will do a short stop to enjoy the beautiful views of the viewpoint of Tina Menor.

Please notice: the visit inside the cave is only available in Spanish.

Dies ist eine wunderschöne Höhle. Ich habe größere Höhlen und spektakulärere Speläothemen gesehen, aber was diese Höhle so besonders macht, sind all die feinen Kalziumkarbonatnadeln, die aus allen Richtungen herausragen wie funkelnde Seeigel. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Wie die Leute bemerkt haben, sprechen die meisten Führer kein Englisch, aber einige schon.

It is one of some destinations that we chose during our visit to Cantabria. The experience is very good. The caves are impressive and very well prepared. Totally accessible to people with disabilities. Our guide Lorena was very nice and explained the geese very well. It is definitely worth it.

I loved the visit and especially the view
The location of the cave offers a stunning panoramic view of the Picos de Europa. The visit lasts an hour and with a slightly broader explanation and enthusiasm it would have been worth it because the site is spectacular. We have learned little more than what is a stalactite and stalagmite and how important the cave are the eccentrics the explanation was very complete.

The guides were very attentive and friendly and teach you how to "read" the cave, identifying the various formations, the history of how the place was formed and many very interesting information. The tourist center of El Soplao is very well structured (souvenir shop, cafeteria, etc.) and the view of the place is fantastic.

The tour was great. They were also small groups with which you can always enjoy the tour and visits more. The visit to the caves was beautiful, and the stops during the trip as well. We had to change the schedule from tomorrow to afternoon, but that did not pose any problem since our guide picked us up at the hotel and made the route mentioned during the whole trip.
