The day starts with a guided tour of the historic centre of the city. Aveiro truly is a special city: where the old and the modern are combined in an impressive way. Admire the charming residences and the streets enchanted with some Art Nouveau details. Did you know that Aveiro is a member of the “Réseau Art Nouveau Network” alongside Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest, Glasgow, Helsinki, or Havana?

Also, prepare your cameras and take some pictures of the beautiful Cathedral of Aveiro (in Portuguese, “Sé de Aveiro”). It was founded in 1423, in a Baroque style, and it was declared a National Monument.

As you walk, learn more about the History and traditions of Aveiro: a fishing village, founded on salt production and trade.

The magic of this journey happens in a 45 minutes boat ride on a classic Moliceiro (traditional boat) along the city’s dazzling canals. Relax and enjoy the landscape on this traditional boat, that once was used to collect seagrass in the lagoon.

This trip is worth the money. Especially Costa Nova is a very beautiful place to go to. Our guide Maria had a lot of knowledge and she is a real nice person to travel with :) We had a great experience yesterday!

history, convenient, and fun

I went on this half day tour Feb 2nd - The Guide Helda was great, and knew a lot of history, and answered all of the groups questions. I really enjoyed the tour - it was convenient and gave you plenty of time to walk around the main canals and streets of Aveiro. The boat ride was good - our guide on the boat ride was so funny and spoke at least 4 languages to accommodate everyone on the boat! The striped houses of costa nova were very cool too. You can do this day trip by train, however, you may have difficulty going from Aveiro to Costa Nova... I would recommend doing this trip instead as I personally really liked the convenience of the guided tour and the added benefit of learning about the city's history! It's also a good way to meet and socialize with other travelers.

Morning Tour. We arrived early at Costa Nova and it was a Sunday. Everywhere closed even the public toilets. I could not find a rest room or cafeteria. The guides and driver did not know if there where any available but a group of ladies from USA managed to find a pastry and coffee shop open. Perhaps the organisers would be more knowledgeable in this regard. Time available for restrooms is AFTER boat ride in Aveiro. Aveiro is lovely and even the boat ride was great. Well worth the visit.

La visita a costa Nova estuvo bien.Pero Averio no hubo tiempo de recorrerla , solo 10 minutos. Lo cual impidió que se visitaran los puntos de interés de esa ciudad. Sugiero que eviten el paseo en bote que no agrega nada a la visita y otorguen mayor tiempo para recorrer la ciudad y visitar los puntos de interés.

Falta tiempo

Marcia la conductora y Rafael el guía fueron muy amables y encantadores. Íbamos con una bebé y nos pusieron sillita para ella, además de guardar y sacar el carrito del guarda equipajes. Pero no recomiendo el tour, es tirar el dinero. No vale la pena gastar tanto dinero en esta excursión. Mejor ir en tren, bus o taxi. Nosotros lo cogimos pensando que sería más cómodo yendo con una niña de 17 meses, pero no. Madrugamos tanto que no pudimos desayunar en el hotel, y luego no hubo ni un solo momento en que pudiéramos hacerlo. (Tampoco estaba permitido en el autobús) Lo hicimos todo corriendo. No nos dio tiempo ni a cambiarle el pañal, mucho menos ir nosotros al servicio. (Al final cambiamos el pañal y perdimos el grupo) no vimos ni la playa, solo 4 casas y un paseo en barca. Porque el paseo por Aveiro fue corto y no se oía bien lo que contaba el guía. Pasas más tiempo en el autobús que en la excursión. Para mí falta añadir una hora para poder empezar a disfrutarla un poco.

Fun, half day trip from Porto but be sure to check the weather and wind as it can be cold this time of year. Although the tour started 15+ minutes late(had to stand around outside in the cold), the overall tour was well done with the tour guide providing lots of information in both English and French. We were rushed to leave Costa Nova to get to Aveiro for the boat ride but then ended up waiting 10-15 minutes for our boat tour. Overall a good tour and worth the money!

Nice little trip

Had a nice little trip to Aveiro and Costa Nova. Aveiro is nothing like Venice (nor Amsterdam) but cute in its own right. Costa Nova was fun too, but our free time there was very limited, not enough to actually explore/ shop. Our tour guide Pedro was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Exceptional guide

I wouldn’t exactly call it the Venice of Portugal but Aveiro is a cute little town with some beautiful art nouveau buildings and worth a visit. The highlight of the day was definitely the guides. I was lucky enough to have 3 which were exceptional. Nuno who is a walking Encyclopedia of Portuguese history and knowledge was training 2 (also very seasoned and knowledgeable) colleagues Tania and George on this itinerary. Nuno saw that i’m camera happy and pointed out some beautiful photo opportunities for me. It’s obvious that they enjoy what they do. I’ve travelled extensively and always take in a couple of tours. The quality of the guide can make or break your experience so thank you for an exceptional afternoon!

A very pleasant way to spend a morning!

This half-day tour in a small van with guide/driver Christian was an ideal way to see something of the countryside south of Porto plus visit two towns with unique features – Aveiro with its waterways and wonderful tiled houses and the fishing town of Costa Nova with its brightly painted houses along the seafront. Christian was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and Portugal in general and was an accomplished driver so it was a very pleasant few hours. Definitely a tour I would recommend.
