In this visit we will see three volcanic sites: the Gruta do Natal, the Furnas do Enxofre and Algar do Carvão.

This visit is more demanding on a physical level, and we do not advise clients who have problems with their back, knees or claustrophobia. The Furnas do Enxofre are a fumarolic field, where we can observe the sulfur, a volcanic gas, leaving the interior of the earth. This fumarolic field is directly related to the Pico Alto volcano, which still shows activity today, and the sulfur is the physical expression of this activity. In these Furnas no food is cooked, nor are there thermal baths, since they are dedicated to the appreciation of nature and the effect of sulfur in it.

The Algar do Carvão is the result of an eruption 2000 years ago when most of the lava that it contained left and spread over almost every island. As a result, the volcano is empty and, with several investments, also visitable, and the visit is made by stairs, with the possibility of descending to the lowest point of the volcano. Throughout the visit, there are several stages, so you can choose to end the visit whenever you want and return to the exit.
