Morning Tour - El Escorial and Valle de Los Caídos
Real Monastery of El Escorial
We will begin the visit in El Escorial, a symbol of Spanish power of the 16th century, which commemorates the Battle of San Quintín and is the Pantheon of the remains of the Emperor Carlos V. Its construction was ruled by reason, symmetry, and balance, and saves the great exponents of Renaissance humanism. For this reason, for years it was considered the eighth wonder of the world. The visit includes the Palace of the Austrians, the Pantheon of Kings and Infants, the Chapter House and the Basilica.
Basilica of Valley of The Fallen - Valle de Los Caídos
9 km from El Escorial is the next stop of our visit: the Basilica of the Valley of the Fallen. Built between 1940 and 1959 to honor the Spaniards who died during the Civil War, this grandiose construction is excavated on the mountain at 1350 m above sea level. In it, an impressive cross of 150 m high stands on the magnificent natural setting of the Sierra Madrileña.
It has approximately 1 hour between the two parts of the excursions for lunch in Madrid, in the afternoon we will go to Toledo.
Afternoon - Tour in Toledo
At 70 km from Madrid is Toledo, a "World Heritage City", city-museum of great artistic beauty and one of the oldest in Europe, called "City of the Three Cultures", since Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together here. Its buildings cover virtually all periods of history (Arabic, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, and Baroque).
Once in Toledo, we will begin our tour visiting the exterior of the Cathedral, shortly after we will go to the interior of the Church of Saint Tomé with "The Burial of the Lord of Orgaz", the masterpiece of El Greco. Then, we will visit the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca and the incredible Monastery of San Juan de Los Reyes.
Once these visits are over, we will go to a demonstration of the famous Damascene technique (an art of embedding of precious metals in steel), forge of swords. We will have time to buy some souvenirs to remember this stunning guided tour! But this tour is far from over: we will conclude the tour with a panoramic visit of the city and with a stop at a viewpoint where we can make the best photographs of Toledo.
