Sagrada Familia

Not surprisingly, the Sagrada Família is the most famous work of Antoni Gaudí and the most visited monument in Barcelona. In 1882, at the age of 31, the genius of modernism took over the work and was in charge until the year of his death, in 1926. Today, the work continues unfinished and the end is not as close as one thinks. Gaudí designed this exceptional and truly innovative temple for the time, with the intention of dedicating it to God. A building that will be formed by eighteen towers, twelve of them dedicated to the Apostles, four to the Evangelists, one to the Virgin Mary and another one to Jesus. Gaudí's commitment to the construction of the Sagrada Familia was so intense that the artist lived in the temple during his last months of life. In order to thank all his devotion, the body of Gaudí is buried in the Chapel of the Carme, in the crypt of the temple. It is also said that the artist already predicted that he would not be alive by the time of completing the work, so he said "others will come after me. Park Guell

This park is able, on its own, of making your visit to the city of Barcelona a magical experience. A world of colors, shapes, textures and truly unique styles that could only be work of Antoni Gaudí. Initially, the project for this garden full of peculiar elements relapsed on the construction of a luxury residential complex for wealthy families. This idea came from a wealthy entrepreneur named Eusebi Guell who quickly fell in love with Gaudí's eccentric style, being one of his main patrons and the origin of the name Park Guell. For many reasons, the idea did not proceed and this became a park with privileged views to the sea and to the city of Barcelona. Nowadays, is one of the main tourist attractions of the city.

Casa Milà

Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera, was the last residential house built by Antoni Gaudí, who dedicated his last years to the Sagrada Família project. The construction on request of an eccentric young man named Pere Milà, did not have a limit of budget, what left the levels of Gaudí's creativity more intense. The result was a building inspired by the modernist movement, a large abstract sculpture wrapped in curved lines. At the time, few understood the true value of the work and after its inauguration had been ridiculed. Fortunately, over the years, its importance in the field of art and architecture gained recognition, being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1984.

The most peculiar part of Casa Milà is its terrace, a truly impressive space where the artist gave life to the ventilation chimneys. Do not believe? There is nothing like seeing for yourself!

Casa Batllo

Only the facade of this building deserves to be contemplated for about 30 minutes! Casa Batlló is also known as the "casa de los huesos (bones)" or "casa de las mascaras" because some of its architectural elements resemble masks and bones. So take some time to enjoy the facade of this timeless work.

Built between 1904 and 1906 on request of Josep Batlló, it reflects on a very personal style of Gaudí, which is once again inspired by organic forms, closely linked to nature. The artist used and abused fragments of ceramics and glass to color the entire building. The top of the roof resembles the back of a scaled reptile. A very interesting work that deserves all your attention.

Casa Vicens

Finally, we finished with the first house of Gaudí, Casa Vicens. It was in 1883 that an important stockbroker commissioned the then-graduated Antoni Gaudí, an important work known today as Casa Vicens. The architecture of this building represents what was the beginning of the style of the great Catalan artist, elements that do not yet rigorously define the shape of his artistic line. The house has strong Eastern and also Mudejar inspiration, full of colorful tiles and Arabic forms that evoke the essence of Moroccan houses. Some of these tiles have drawn yellow carnations, a flower that, according to many, was found by Gaudí on the ground when the construction of the house began.
