"The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha" is a satire to the chivalric romances very popular in the 17th-century. The author tells the story of a man who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his sanity and decides to set out to revive chivalry, undo wrongs, and bring justice to the world, under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. The Mills of La Mancha become giant monsters and the houses in true castles.

Nevertheless, there could be a few little-known facts you haven’t heard about that 17th-century masterpiece!

1. The author Miguel Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616), is considered one of the greatest writers of world literature and in his famous book, Don Quixote is considered the first modern novel.

2. "Don Quixote" is the third most translated book in the world, the book has been translated into at least 50 languages. Don Quixote is also the best-selling fiction book of all time.

3. The book resulted in the term "Quixotesco", a synonym of a dreamer, out of touch with reality, according to the main character.

4. The character Don Quixote served as inspiration for two great artists: Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso. Both renowned artists created original illustrations of this dreamy knight.

5. The work was so successful that it was plagiarized by an anonymous writer who called himself Alonso Fernandez, published an alleged second part of it.
