We are in the fantastic Christmas season, where street markets appear in every corner of the city. We know how difficult it is to have ideas for the ideal present - for your friend, mother, girlfriend, boyfriend, co-worker, or even your younger cousin.

Today, we made a shortlist with some Christmas markets in Porto and in Lisbon to start organizing your shopping list!

Porto Christmas

 

Christmas Market at the Crystal Palace: 1 - 23 December

Located on Avenida das Tílias, this market takes place in the gardens of Palácio de Cristal, one of the most beautiful and vibrant places in Porto.
It promises a new approach to the Christmas environment, and maybe that's why it's called the Christmas Design Market. There will be no shortage of stalls with sweets, drinks or souvenirs from the season and admission is free. There will also be workshops (paid).
Note that during this period, the days of the week when the market will be open will be from Wednesday to Sunday, between 11am and 8pm.

 

Porto Cristmas Market: 1 - 30 December 

In Praça da Batalha (Batalha Square), in the heart of the city Invicta, you will find a Christmas fair with more than 20 exhibitors, where you can find clothes, decorations, and handicrafts, books, and toys. What is not missing are opportunities to arrange the ideal gift for your more... complicated friend. There is also a lot of music and workshops throughout the days at Porto Christmas Market.

 

Mercado da Alegria: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 December

The Mercado da Alegria, which takes place in the Jardim do Passeio Alegre, is an urban market with sales activities organised by a group of artisans whose aim is to publicise their activity. The market sells clothing, jewellery and fashion accessories, as well as fresh food and regional gastronomic products.

 

Serralves Christmas Market: 1 - 3 December

This Christmas Market is located in Serralves Park. With free entry, you'll have lots of ideas for gifts and activities for families and groups of friends.
In the market you can find Christmas objects and gifts, toys and games, workshops and activities, and typical sweets and drinks of the season. And one of the most beautiful parks in the city of Porto.

These little markets are about to show up in your town... And they are the perfect help to buy the ideal gift for friends' dinners, for Christmas dinner and for lunch with the extended family. Prepare your ideas now, or prepare to solve the problem of your last-minute gifts. You will find everything!

 

Feira Artesanatus: 14 - 22 December 

Discover the greatest highlights of traditional and contemporary crafts. At Feira Artesanatus, you can easily find a good surprise for those who like shoes, jewelry, and work in various materials - all handmade and with the care of a true craftsman! Do not forget to visit also the handmade sweets stalls, which follow homemade recipes. This market is open in December at Largo Amor de Perdição, in Cordoaria.

 

Antiques and Vintage Fair: 16 December

The Antiques and Vintage Fair, which will take place in Praça de Francisco Sá Carneiro, aims to safeguard and promote a taste for the testimonies of the past, translated into objects of symbolic value, given their period of production or manufacture. It will enable the sale of antique and vintage objects, including books, porcelain, furniture, decorative objects, coins, jewellery, tapestries and paintings.

Rossio Christmas Market: 18 November - 21 December

Located in Praça Dom Pedro V, in the heart of downtown Lisbon, this market has several novelties and interesting activities.
As usual, stalls for crafts, sweets, drinks, products and decorations. A Christmas Exhibition from dolls hospital, with a vast collection of dolls, ancient and modern, that children will love.
An exhibition of Christmas shop windows, with a lot of creativity and originality, promoted by the Escola de Comércio de Lisboa.
And for all families, a Christmas train, which runs through the streets of Baixa. A free activity, you only need to collect a voucher from participating stores. Prepared by the Baixa Pombalina Dynamization Association.

 

Mercado de Natal do Campo Pequeno: 30 November - 11 December 

This is one of the biggest and most famous Christmas markets in Portugal. Here you will find a selection of design pieces, jewelry, clothing, books, toys, and decor - the assortment is plenty to suit all tastes, right? One of the most interesting aspects of the Campo Pequeno Christmas Market is that it aims to give voice to sustainable production, that is, here you can find an environmentally friendly gift that supports the projects of traditional small artisans.

 

Cascais Christmas Village: 30 November - 1 January 

Are you ready to see Cascais turning into a real Christmas Village? We are not exaggerating: here you will find all the magic of Christmas! With the presence of true reindeers, a stunning eight-meter Christmas tree, a market with several products and an ice-skating rink, you will feel that you have arrived at a place worthy of a children's tale. The surprises will be many and suitable for all ages!

 

Natalis: 1 - 31 December

Christmas arrives at FIL in early December. At Natalis, you can find several areas: the Santa Claus Market, the Sustainability Market, the Play Market, the ChocoSweet Market, and the Gastronomy Space, very focused on chocolate. And what would a Christmas without chocolate mean? In addition, there are exhibitions for the whole family, an amusement park and even a circus. Certainly, at Natalis, you will find dozens of perfect products for this Christmas... the hard part is choosing! The most beautiful part of this event is that all income from the ticket office reverts in favor of social solidarity institutions.

Alenquer, Nativity scene of Portugal: 30 November - 30 December

From 30 November to 30 December, the hillside town of Alenquer is home to one of the largest and best-known nativity scenes in the country. This is a tradition that dates back to 1968 and has enabled the town to be awarded the title of Presépio de Portugal. In addition to the popular nativity scene, the Alenquer Christmas market also features various exhibitions and activities capable of awakening anyone's Christmas spirit.

 

Óbidos Christmas Village: 30 November - 2 January

Within the historic walls of Óbidos hides a little Christmas oasis. The Óbidos Christmas Village opened on 30 November and can be visited until 2 January 2024. This year, the festive market is hosting various entertainment shows, craft shops and an ice rink and ramp.

 

Braga Christmas Market: 1 - 31 December

A famous Christmas market in Portugal for 2023 is the Braga Christmas Market. This market takes place on Avenida Central and offers a variety of regional products, handicrafts, gastronomy and entertainment. The market is open from 1 to 31 December, from 10am to 8pm. In addition to the market, there is also an ice rink, a carousel, a tourist train and Father Christmas' house. The Braga Christmas Market is a great option for those looking for a festive and cosy atmosphere in the north of Portugal.

 

Christmas Market - Natalândia in Lagos: 7 - 23 December

From 7 to 23 December, Praça do Infante in Lagos is transformed into a veritable Christmasland, with a giant tree, an ecological ice rink, a Parisian carousel and lots of other entertainment for all the family. The market also has several stalls selling handicrafts, gastronomy and regional products.

 

Ribatejo Interior Christmas Market: 14 - 16 December

From 14 to 16 December, the Gil Vicente Cultural Centre in Sardoal hosts the Ribatejo Interior Christmas Market, where you can find local products such as honey, jams, liqueurs, cheeses, sausages, cakes and handicrafts. The market also features musical entertainment, children's theatre and an exhibition of nativity scenes.
