National Museum of Art of Catalunya (MNAC)

Located in the imposing Montjuic Palace, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia provides us one of the most breathtaking sceneries of the city of Barcelona. This museum stands out mainly for its unmistakable collection of Romanesque art, considered the most complete in the world. With a vast diversity of works of this nature ranging from paintings to sculptures from the X-century to the XIII. Those are works extracted from their original without compromising their natural state in order to avoid the sale outside of Spain. The Gothic style in the MNAC owns a room with many works of sacred art. In the section devoted to the Renaissance and the Baroque, we highlight the works of the artists: Bartolomé Bermejo, José de Ribera, and Velásquez. The collection became even more complete with the works of Francesc Cambó, a loan from the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum. The modernism, architectural and decorative style that was adopted by the bourgeois which is related to the economic splendor of Catalonia. The museum has works by artists from all over Europe, especially Picasso, Velázquez, Miró, and Dalí. We can also find furniture and decorative objects designed by Antoni Gaudí.

Free entrance on Saturdays from 3:00 PM and the first Sundays of the month.

Dedicated to the biggest fans of the artist born in Malaga! More than 3500 works of Pablo Picasso are available, being, therefore, the museum that houses the greatest collection of the artist. The museum tells the story of the intimate relationship between Picasso and Barcelona that lasted until his last breath. You can find the building in the well-known El Born district, witness of a glorious past. A museum that houses five Catalan Gothic-style palaces, all connected and with a chronological order of the works of Picasso. A mandatory visit!

You can always guarantee your seat in Picasso Museum since on free admission days is overcrowded.

Free admission every Thursday from 6 PM to 9:30 PM, on the first Sunday of each month from 9 AM to 9:30 PM and on the 18th of May and 24th of September. 

 

Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA)

Blau Museum – Museum of Natural Sciences

A two floors building with a peculiar shape of a triangle is considered a landmark of local architecture. This is a space dedicated to the natural sciences that offer a permanent exhibition on the History of life and planet Earth. You can find here more than 4500 pieces, among which are dissected animals, fossils, plants, rocks, and minerals. An interactive character museum that promises to entertain adults and children!
